Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2

Pam spray 9x13 casserole.

Step 3

Cook bacon until crisp.

Step 4

Add sausage cook until brown and remove.

Step 5

Add onions celery and bell peppers to bacon grease.

Step 6

Season lightly with spices and cook until translucent.

Step 7

Add garlic, tomato paste (don't burn it), chicken broth, sugar and water and rice.

Step 8

Season to taste with spices.

Step 9

Add meat and pour into the casserole dish.

Step 10

Cover and bake for 90 minutes.

Step 11

Take out of oven and leave covered for 5 minutes.

Step 12

If the rice needs more water, add it and bake longer.

Step 13

Fluff and season as needed.

Step 14

Top with herbs.
