Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a bowl heat milk in microwave about 2 minutes until warmed.

Step 2

In another microwave-safe bowl, melt butter on High (1-2 minutes). Stir in flour; micorwave on High 2 minutes stopping and stirring once. Whisk in the warm milk; cook on High 2 1/2 minutes or until boiling. Stir in shredded cheese.

This is such an easy sauce to make. I did add some chives, freshly ground pepper and just a little salt to the sauce mix and served half over mixed steamed vegetables and used the other half of the sauce to pour over baked cauliflower. This sauce complimented the steamed vegetables so well and paired perfectly when poured over the cauliflower which was then topped with breadcrumbs. I am sure to be making this again.

Being a newbie cook I am constantly looking for basic recipes to get me started. I wanted to make mac n cheese on top of the stove.
