"This rice is wonderful with chicken or fish. You can change up the herbs to match what you are serving, although I always include tarragon when I serve this with chicken."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter. Add the onion, cover and cook over low heat until translucent, 5 minutes.

Step 2

Stir in the rice and garlic. Add the water and 1 teaspoon of salt and bring to a boil over high heat. Cover and cook over moderately low heat for 10 minutes.

Step 3

Replace the lid on the rice with a clean kitchen towel and remove from the heat. Let the rice stand, covered for 5 minutes until tender.

Step 4

Using 2 forks, lightly fluff the rice. Gently stir in the herbs, season with salt, and cover with the towel and the lid and let it stand for up to 30 minutes before serving.

I made this rice so I could use up the odds and ends of herbs I had in the refrigerator and it came out so good! I used parsley, cilantro & green onion. A versatile recipe, and one I will make again. Thanks for posting!

Made for a great side dish and very much enjoyed. I sauted the onion, added in the garlic to release the flavor then aded all to my rice cooker. I used parsely and snipped chives fresh from my spring garden. Beautiful, fluffy and flavorful rice that will see to repeats.

We really enjoyed this rice. I used rosemary and parsley because that's what I had on hand. Thanks for sharing.

This was a great rice recipe. I used fresh rosemary and parsley for the herbs, and it was a great herb combination. It's quite easy to prepare, too. Thanks, breezermom.

Easy and delicious though when making it again I will cut back on the butter a little as I found it a little rich for my taste, the herbs I used were a little rosemary, basil, parsley, chives and oregano and Jasmine rice, the timing was perfect and now I have some for the freezer as it was only me having it as side, thank you breezermom made for First Time tag game on FF&FF under the 24 hour rule.

Loved the ease of making this steamed rice. It worked perfectly!! I have a rice maker too, but it always turns out sticky/gooey, so really liked the results from this method. I used a combination of garlic chives and lemon thyme for my herbs and it was delicious. Mine was really salty, but I think I added the salt twice, oops, so that was my fault. Thanks for sharing the recipe, that I will use again for cooking rice.
