Step by Step Method
Step 1
Pour dry rice in large wire-mesh strainer and rinse under cold water for 1 full minute (since the news now says that there is arsenic in rice and should be always rinsed before cooking and cooked in 6 times as much water as rice).
Step 2
Pour water and salt in 4 quart saucepan and bring to a boil. Pour in rice, stir and bring back to a boil. Reduce heat to med/low and cook covered for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, take to sink and pour back into wire-mesh strainer and immediately put strainer with the rice back on top of the pan so that some of the cooking water drains back in the pan.
Step 3
Place back on burner with heat on low and cover pan and strainer with aluminum foil to seal. Cook an additional 10 minutes, so that, now the rice is steaming. At the end of 10 minutes, take pan to sink and pour out excess water left in the bottom and pour rice back in the pan. It will be done and fluffy every time. Add anything you like with your rice.
