"What is not to like about a quick, and easy steak sandwich. Cube steak is an inexpensive and affordable cut; but, is also very delicious. A perfect lunch or dinner. Simply add some chips or fries, and it's done. I like to use the thin sandwich thin dill slices; but, use your favorite pickles. Butter chips are also delicious on this sandwich. Prep does NOT include the time to let the steak rest after coating it with the flour."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Cube Steak ... They usually come pretty thin; but, I do like to pound them a bit once I get them home. Simply place between two pieces of plastic wrap or waxed paper, and pound using a meat mallet, or you can use the bottom of a heavy pot, or even a rolling pin. I just like them pretty thin for this recipe.

Step 2

Dredging Station ... Add the milk and worcestershire sauce to one pie plate or dish; and, the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper to the another plate or dish. Dip the steak into the milk, and then the flour - making sure to shake off any excess. You want a light coating. Then, set the steaks to the side on a wire rack or plate to rest at least 10 minutes before frying.

Step 3

Pan Fry ... I like to use my cast iron pan for this; but use what you have. Add the butter and olive oil to the pan, and bring to medium high heat. Add the steaks to the pan, and fry on each side until you get a nice crust. About 3-4 minutes per side. The last minute, add the cheese to the steaks, cover; and, remove from the heat. Let it set just a minute until the cheese has melted. Transfer the steaks to a plate and cover with foil to rest.

Step 4

Sandwich ... Add the rolls, cut side down, right to the pan and cook with any of the steak drippings. Just a minute or so to brown. The juices from the steak will only make the rolls even better.

Step 5

Finish ... Top the bottom roll with a few onion slices; then, cut the steak to fit on the roll. Top with pickle slices, and the top roll slathered with the Miracle Whip or mayonnaise. This is actually one dish, where I prefer Miracle Whip.

Step 6

Serve and ENJOY! ... It's a simple classic sandwich. Chips or fries for me on the side!
