"This Liqueur recipe is from a very old family cookbook. I have only got around to making it last year. This will take 1 month before it is ready to drink. Note: Other stone fruits, one type only or a mixture, can also be made into liqueurs. I used plum stones, and it was really nicer than I expected. Not overpowering in fruit flavour, very subtle but really pleasant to drink. I am really wanting to use the cherry pits next time, but will have to wait for summer! Note: This recipe will yield approx. 3-4 cups."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Wash and thoroughly dry the cherry stones. Crush them with a heavy rolling pin and put them in a jar with the brandy. Add the sugar, cover and shake well.

Step 2

Leave in a warm place for about 1 month. Strain and pour into sterilized bottles and cork tightly.

Step 3

Note: Other stone fruits, one type only or a mixture, can also be made into liqueurs.
