What WAS on Your Plate & WHAT'S for Dinner 11/23-11/24
Is Everyone Ready?
Today's Cooking ...
Well, the Southern TDay party went well. Prepped for the German Feast today for one of the other ladies.
Then, I'll be lucky to open up a can of tomato soup and make a grilled cheese for me.
I am going to bake my ham tonight; cut, it up for what I need; and cut the rest, bag it up and freeze. I'm also going to make my Dad's favorite chipped beef ball for a snack tomorrow; as I make my dinner.
Lady #2+Family (12): She and her SO first met - at a German Festival; and, her family is German too - served at 1pm:
- Soft pretzels (from a german bakery) w/beer cheese or spicy mustard, mixed sausage plate (from a local German deli) w/2 mustards and a curry sauce, jagermeister cocktails; sauerbraten w/gravy (made overnight in the crock); classic veal schnitzel, http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/saraso ... etzle-7553 http://www.recipezazz.com/r…/simple-bra ... bbage-8425 http://www.food.com/recipe/potato-panca ... style-4247 w/sour cream and apple sauce; German chocolate cake (made by my catering friend) - FYI, I have help

I think cherry pie would be delicious.lovinretirement wrote:Got my cherry pie made for tomorrow. Husband can't have pumpkin because of the potassium content. We got 5 gallons of fresh cherries this summer from a local orchard, and I portioned them out into zip lock bags and put them in the freezer.
Today it's just sausage, cabbage, apple, and cheese casserole.
I did eggs, sausage, toast last night, easy.

Just me for dinner; but, a good friend will stop over after his shift late. Then, my son will stop over for a 'to go' plate.
It's classic today - turkey; but, a turkey breast. I still have a carcass from 2 months ago in the freezer. Ham w/currant mustard glaze, mashed spuds/gravy, yes ... classic green bean casserole (real green beans), stuffing, cranberry sauce (w/grand manier, orange, pecans), homemade rolls; and, my traditional homemade honey butter.
Then, you guessed it. Leftovers for 3 nights - but, I don't mind at all.

Actually, I like the leftovers better. You don't have all the hustle and bustle of the work on the big day. Just reheat and eat.Kchurchill5 wrote:IT'S TURKEY DAY ... GOOBLE - GOOBLE!!

Yep, NO work. I love them.
First night, I do more ham vs turkey and less stuffing.
Take a night off. Then, next night, just a repeat of night one.
Then, freeze. The potatoes, I make potatoes cakes; or add to make fish cakes.
The beans are gone. Cranberry sauce good for a few days, I will have a turkey sandwich w/cranberry and brie.
Stuffing, if any left. In a small, baggie. Great to use and add with crab meat for stuffed mushrooms or fish. Also, you can stuff a pork chop or chicken breast too.
The turkey, breast bone made for stock. The rest, whatever, in small baggies for the freezer.
Done!!! And, great leftovers.
