Step by Step Method

Step 1

Place olive oil and sliced garlic in a small saucepan and heat on low till oil is heated just below a simmer. Turn off heat and set aside.

Step 2

Put ham on a microwave-safe dish and nuke for about 45-60 seconds to heat the ham.

Step 3

If it's a little wet, dab with paper towels to dry off, so it doesn't make your bread soggy.

Step 4

I slice the bread on a diagonal so I get a longer slice of bread for the sandwich. Butter the insides of the bread and place ham on one side, the cheese on the other side, and tear up the basil leaves and place in between. Put sandwiches together.

Step 5

Heat a large non-stick skillet or grill pan on medium-high heat. With a basting brush, brush the garlic-flavored olive oil on the outside of one side of the sandwiches. Place in heated skillet, oiled side down, then brush the other side of the sandwiches with the oil. Grill till golden brown on the bottom and turn to brown the other side.
