Danish Brown Spice Cookies (Sirups Kager}
Recipe: #2251
November 09, 2011
"A recipe from Food Down Under's website and submitted by Julie K. Cook of Chicago. A Danish Christmas cookie that is brown like a reindeer. Using a reindeer shaped cookie cutter would be nice but any shape will do. Another option - dough can also be rolled into logs about 1-inch in diameter and sliced crosswise into 1-inch-thick rounds. The hour of chilling time in the refrigerator is included in the prep time."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Cream together softened butter or margarine, sugar, and dark corn syrup. Add water to baking soda mix well and add to butter mixture along with cinnamon and cloves. Slowly stir in flour mixing well after each addition until a stiff dough is formed. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator until dough is firm about one hour.
Step 2
Scrape dough out of bowl onto a floured surface and roll into a 1/8 inch thickness. Using the reindeer cookie cutter or cutter of your choice cut shapes into dough. Lay cutouts onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
