Step by Step Method

Step 1

Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl.

Step 2

Cut in the shortening. You can use a pastry blender, however, I find it easier to just use my hands to get it mixed in really well.

Step 3

Store in an airtight container.

Step 4

Use the same as you would use Bisquick in a recipe.

Editorial Notes

The ingredient tips, suggestions, variations, facts, questions and answers below are not edits to the original author's recipe. They are not meant to imply any change would improve the recipe. They're offered for convenience, alternative ideas, and points of interest. If you have any comments about them, please post in the Help & Ideas forum.

  • When selecting shortening, try to choose one that is non-hydrogenated and free of trans-fats.
  • For a gluten-free option, use a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend instead of the all-purpose flour.

  • Replace the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier option. Whole wheat flour is higher in fiber and vitamins than all-purpose flour, making it a more nutritious choice.
  • Replace the shortening with coconut oil for a dairy-free option. Coconut oil is a healthier alternative to shortening, as it is a plant-based fat that is rich in healthy fats and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Whole Wheat Bisquick Replace the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour and follow the same instructions as above.

Roasted Asparagus with Parmesan: This simple side dish pairs perfectly with Bisquick pancakes, waffles, and biscuits. Roasting the asparagus brings out its natural sweetness and the Parmesan adds a salty, nutty flavor. It's a delicious and easy way to round out a comforting breakfast.

Scrambled Eggs with Spinach and Feta: Scrambled eggs are a classic breakfast dish that pairs well with the roasted asparagus and Parmesan. Adding spinach and feta cheese brings more flavor and nutrition to the dish. The feta cheese adds a creamy, salty flavor that complements the asparagus, while the spinach adds a pop of color and a boost of vitamins and minerals.

Fast and easy to put together. Used a pastry blender and finished it with a few pulses in the processor. Made cheese and garlic biscuits for lunch and forgot to take a photo. They were light and fluffy. Great mix! Thanks for sharing Pia! Made for Billboard Recipe Tag. UPDATE: Made biscuits again with photo. Requests to make them again. They turned out light and fluffy. Thanks Pia!

Fun facts:

The Bisquick baking mix was invented in 1931 by a team of employees at the General Mills company in Minneapolis. The team was led by James Ford Bell, who later became the Chairman of the Board.

The Bisquick mix was so popular, it even made an appearance in the classic film "Breakfast at Tiffany's". In the movie, Holly Golightly, played by Audrey Hepburn, uses the mix to make pancakes for her love interest, Paul Varjak, played by George Peppard.
