Step by Step Method

Step 1

Brown hamburger and onions in pot. Drain.

Step 2

In 9 x 13 pan mix all ingredients except noodles.

Step 3

Cover with foil, cook at 325 degree oven for 1 hour.

Step 4

After one hour remove foil and top with chow mein noodles.

Step 5

Continue to bake for another 1/2 hour uncovered.

I followed the directions exactly other than using chicken broth instead of water (I had some that had to be used)... and was thrilled with the result. I make a lot of "hot dishes" and this one is similar to one my Aunt in Minnesota used to make -- she's gone now and I don't have the recipe -- so this was nostalgic and delicious to me! I like how the rice cooks in the oven and the casserole is rich, creamy with a bit of crunch to boot. I'm looking forward to the left-overs.
